Summary of project:

The project aimed to enhance fire detection and management in the Trebević and Tara regions through the application of advanced technologies, including remote sensing and satellite-based diagnostics. It focused on the development of technical documentation for early fire detection systems and pilot testing of satellite solutions.


The project strengthened cross-border cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, enabling knowledge exchange and coordination among protected area administrations, local communities, and NGOs. Particular emphasis was placed on improving governance of protected areas (PAs) in the context of increasing wildfire risks driven by climate change.


Through awareness-raising and capacity-building activities, local communities were engaged in fire prevention and conservation efforts, contributing to improved response capacities, sustainable natural resource management, and enhanced ecosystem resilience.



Project objectives


General objective:


The project aimed to implement advanced fire detection and management technologies in Trebević and Tara, using LFM to develop technical documentation and pilot satellite solutions, while strengthening ecosystem resilience and cross-border cooperation.



The key activities of the project:

  1. Preparation of technical documentation for the remote monitoring system on Trebević.

  2. Pilot testing of existing satellite diagnostic technologies on Tara.

  3. Education and raising awareness of local communities about fire prevention and nature protection.

  4. Report on lessons learned and recommendations related to the forest fire management approach (LFM approach).



Expected project outcomes:

  1. Establishment of the foundation for using advanced technologies for early fire detection and monitoring in Trebević and Tara.

  2. Enhanced cross-border cooperation and collaborative approach to fire management.

  3. Education and raising awareness.
