Fostering National Soil Partnership

The event Fostering National Soil Partnership was organized on December 17, 2018 by UN Environment, Serbian Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and Forestry and Environmental Action – fea with the aim to celebrate World Soil Day (WSD) in Belgrade, Serbia. The main objective of the event was to gather in one place all stakeholder groups in the soil area (government institutions, NGOs, international organizations, research and scientific organizations, private companies) and to foster establishment of the national soil partnership. Additionally, the event was an opportunity to present all the results related to the protection of land degradation.

The World Soil Day 2018 in schools, Belgrade

Five workshops for elementary school pupils age of 8-10 years old (II – IV grade) were designed and held in elementary schools in Belgrade to celebrate World Soil Day 2018 in the week from 3th to 7th December 2018. Through interactive, hands-on and interesting workshops children learned that soils have a crucial role in food security, water purification, climate regulation and that soil delivers other ecosystem services that enable life on Earth.

Workshop “Status and opportunities for cooperation on the sustainable development of private forests” took place on 8th June 2018 in National Park Tara with the aim to gather most important representatives in this field in order to discuss the possibilities and perspectives of private forest owners associations in Serbia and better collaboration between forest stakeholders in the region.

On the occasion of the World Environment Day commemoration, thematic competition Beat plastic pollution! If you can’t reuse it, refuse it! was organized among elementary school classes across Serbia in plastic waste collection and use for building a demonstration piece of art - plastic vessel, with aim to raise awareness among elementary school pupils, age of 8-10 years old on plastic pollution and its negative impacts on environment and human health.

Sa velikim zadovoljstvom vas obaveštavamo da smo izabrali najbolje radove na kreativnom konkursu U koštac sa plastikom!  Stručna komisija je u obzir uzela opis ideje, količinu iskorišćene plastične ambalaže i drugih plastičnih predmeta koji su upotrebljeni za pravljenje plovila, kao i izgled finalnog rada.

Povodom obeležavanja Svetskog dana zaštite životne sredine, Agencija Ujedinjenih nacija za životnu sredinu (UN Environment) – Programska kancelarija u Beču, uz podršku regionalne nevladine mreže Forestry and Environmental Action – fea i strukovnog udruženja Ambasadori održivog razvoja i životne sredine organizuje tematsko takmičenje za učenike osnovnih škola u Republici Srbiji sa ciljem podizanja svesti dece o negativnom uticaju plastičnog otpada na zdravlje ljudi i životnu sredinu, mogućnostima za ponovnu upotrebu i reciklažu plastike, kao i pravilnom odlaganju plastičnog otpada.

In the period from 26 February to 3 March 2018, Program Partners Workshop was held and hosted by fea in Sarajevo, BiH. This was synergy workshop aiming at strengthening partners’ capacity, learning, and knowledge sharing in process of sustainable forest management. 

Forest Extension Workshop

In order to extend possibilities for networking, cooperation and exchange of expertise and ideas in forest sector, European Forest Institute organized two-day workshop in Bonn, started on 22nd of January 2018. This event gathered more than 30 participants in different fields of forest advisory and extension from 16 countries.

Celebration of the World Soil Day in Belgrade, Serbia

Three workshops to celebrate World Soil Day 2017 were organized during the Serbian Science Festival. Two workshops were held in form of one-hour interactive lecture on 14th and 15th December 2017. The third workshop was designed as a whole day interactive event and was held on 17th December 2017. All these events attracted between 1,000 – 2,000 children and youth in an effort to highlight the importance and multiple roles of soil.

Large amount of damage is done to our planet every year due to the lack of   knowledge about the earth and impacts of human activities. Workshops on Sustainable Forest Management

In the frame of project "Mobilizing smallholder forest owners and building a foundation for civil society strengthening and organizing through their engagement in local forest owners association(s) in Bosnia and Herzegovina", fea team in cooperation with project partner Danish Forestry Extension (DFE) organized and held 2 workshops with key stakeholders, on October 31 and November 2, 2017.

Analysis of the private forest sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina

In the forthcoming period, fea team will held a series of focus groups with private forest owners, in cooperation with the local communities of the Sarajevo Canton, and will survey in total 400 private forest owners. It was interesting to hear the experiences of the inhabitants (private forest owners) of the village Dejčići at Bjelašnica mountain, and to look at the real problems of the private forest owners in the field.

Within the project Enhanced Cross-Sectoral Land Management through Land Use Pressure Reduction and Planning over the past five months, fea identified and carried out consultations with target stakeholders in order to gather information on the current state of land management in Serbia.

fea launched a project to deal with soil degradation in the Republic of Serbia

In 2016 fea in cooperation with UNEP ROE - Vienna Office launched the UNEP/GEF project entitled Enhanced Cross-Sectoral Land Management through Land Use Pressure Reduction and Planning in Republic of Serbia, to deal with soil degradation in the Republic of Serbia.

In its effort to mitigate the challenges facing Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), USAID commemorated January 2014 as “Corporate Social Responsibility Is Just Good Business” month, and invited BiH companies to take responsibility for the welfare and development of their local communities.

The meeting of UN Global Compact network in BiH was held in December 2013 in Sarajevo, with the aim to present the Global Compact Strategy 2014-2016. fea joined the UNCG in November 2013. 

fea has joined the world’s largest corporate responsibility initiative United Nations Global Compact, with the aim to support sustainable practices in private sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina and South East Europe.

First meeting for the project Development of the first National Action Programme for the land protection in FYR Macedonia  was held on 5th November 2013. The project will assess the current state of land in Macedonia, and will be based on identified priorities for protection to create a unique action plan.

16th International Business Forum was organized on 23rd and 24th of October 2013 in Istanbul. IBF was created by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in order to raise awareness among enterprises regarding their impact in the field of sustainable development and poverty reduction.

fea participated at the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Extended Constituency Workshop (ECW) for Eastern Europe, which was held 4th-6th September 2013. Meeting for the CSOs and GEF Focal Points was organized separately on the first day. At the meeting, the CSO representatives had the opportunity to exchange experiences regarding their work, experience with GEF projects, and to get information about the work of GEF NGO Network.

The project Support to Bosnia and Herzegovina for development of National Action Programme (NAP) aligned to the UNCCD 10-Year Strategy and Reporting  Process under UNCCD aims at facilitating access to GEF funding by Bosnia and Herzegovina for Enabling Activities to meet its obligations under the UNCCD: a) NAP development in line with 10-Year Strategy and. b) Reporting and review process.

Development and management of protected areas must be the interest of the wider community, as it was pointed out at the workshop What is a national park for me? held on February 1st, 2013 in Mostar as a part of the Campaign to Raise Public Awareness of the Values and the Positive Effects of Protected Forest and Mountain Areas in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has considerable potential for the development of a green economy, according to conclusions from the workshop Green Economy. Pathway for the Future?, which was held on January 17, 2013 in Sarajevo as a part of a Public Awareness Campaign about Values and the Positive Effects of Protected Forest and Mountain Areas in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
