Summary of the project 

This project deals with the problem of forest fires in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are mainly caused

by climate change and poor forest fire management.


The project intervention aims to improve the management of forest fires in BiH, reduce the loss of forest

cover and preserve biodiversity. The project itself contributes to the improvement of the situation

regarding the identified problems and the fulfillment of priorities and goals in strategies and documents

at different administrative levels, as well as strategies in the field of forestry.

 


Project goals

General goal: Reducing the increased risk of fire as the direct impact of climate change in Bosnia and

Herzegovina for greater security of human settlements, industry, and the environment, especially from

the aspect of protecting high-value natural ecosystems.

 

Specific goals:


  1. Intensify, consolidate, and facilitate joint coordinated action of the government sector and civil

    society with the aim of promoting governance fire risk, climate adaptation changes, and

    strengthening BiH readiness in case of disasters.


  2. Establish a web platform for disseminating information and raising awareness about the impacts

    and consequences of climate change in the question of forest fires and establish the first

    interactive map of susceptibility to fires in BiH.


  3. Conduct the largest and most comprehensive raise awareness campaign about the importance

    and scope of risks and consequences associated with forest fires and encourage civil activism in

    fire prevention.

 

Main activities:

1. Strengthening the capacity to improve forest fire management through participatory action.

 

  • Individual introductory meetings

  • Kick-off event

  • Signing of the Memorandum on Cooperation with the competent institutions and/or

  • nomination of focal (responsible) persons in front of the institutions who will actively

  • monitor the project implementation and be involved in the form and scope previously

  • agreed upon

  • The organization of three workshops

  • Creation of a Road Map for reducing the risk of forest fires


2. Digitization of forest fire management

Development of the first interactive fire susceptibility map in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Establish a web platform for disseminating information and raising awareness about the impacts

and consequences of climate change in the matter of forest fires


3. Advocacy activities for the improvement of the forest fire management area

 

  • Development of the Communication Strategy

  • Establishment of communication channels

  • Video animations for the purposes of creating a promotion/media campaign

  • Production of communication materials
