Summary of the project:

ECOBREEDS is a three-year project addressing pastoralism across the Adriatic-Ionian (ADRION) region. The project focuses on preserving and protecting the environment by highlighting the vital role of pastoral systems in delivering ecosystem services. Through extensive grazing, these systems safeguard High Nature Value protected areas and support biodiversity, including both wildlife and floristic diversity as well as local livestock breeds integral to these systems.

ECOBREEDS uses an innovative, interdisciplinary, and transnational approach, aimed at tackling shared challenges across six partner countries (BiH, Croatia, Greece, Italy, North Macedonia, Serbia) and emphasizing the multifaceted roles of pastoral systems. Furthermore, ECOBREEDS is committed to increasing knowledge about pastoral systems, addressing the needs and dynamics of pastoral actors, and fostering skill development. The project aims to inspire innovative thinking and reduce disparities among partner countries, ensuring a more sustainable future for pastoralism in the ADRION region.
