Project: Policies and strategies for environmental protection and preservation of pastoral systems and local livestock breeds in the Adriatic Ionian region (ECOBREEDS)
The project “Policies and strategies for environmental protection and preservation of pastoral systems and local livestock breeds in the Adriatic Ionian region” (ECOBREEDS) officially began with the Kick-off meeting and First Transnational Workshop, held from October 31 to November 1, 2024, at the Aristotle University Research Dissemination Center in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Co-funded by the European Union under the IPA ADRION Programme, the project targets the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of pastoralism, which is based on the co-creation of solutions with all relevant actors. By addressing challenges such as farm abandonment and ecosystem degradation, ECOBREEDS project emphasizes the preservation of pastoral systems and the promotion of sustainable practices that enhance biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and water regulation.
The Kick-off meeting and the First Transnational Workshop brought together project partners to establish a detailed work plan, align priorities for next project activities, and finalize a Communication strategy to ensure project visibility and outreach. The discussions laid the groundwork for transformative solutions to protect and enhance pastoral systems in the Adriatic Ionian region.
With its three-year timeline, ECOBREEDS project is set to deliver impactful results by co-creating innovative solutions with stakeholders to strengthen rural livelihoods, preserve biodiversity, and promote environmental resilience. Stay tuned for updates!
