We are excited to announce the launch of the project “Preparation of an Expert Assessment for the Designation of Pliva Lakes as a Protected Area, along with the Draft of the Law” which aims to establish Pliva Lakes as a protected area in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), ensuring the conservation of its biodiversity, natural and cultural values, while promoting the sustainable development of the local community.

The Expert Assessment will establish the values of the Pliva Lakes area in accordance with the nature protection laws of the Federation of BiH and the CBC, and provide a rationale for the protection of this unique area. The ultimate goal is to initiate the process of establishing a protected area, contributing to the expansion of protected regions in CBC and the Federation of BiH, while supporting the conservation of biological and landscape diversity, aligned with the relevant strategies and spatial plans of the Municipality of Jajce, CBC, and the Federation of BiH.

Key activities of the project include reviewing existing documentation and spatial planning documents to confirm the scope of the area, conducting field research to gather additional data, and developing the necessary expert documents. The project will also engage stakeholders through consultations and workshops, collaborate on drafting the legal document for the protection of Pliva Lakes, and finalize and submit the required documentation for approval.

This project marks a significant step in safeguarding the natural heritage of Pliva Lakes. We are excited to see Pliva Lakes, along with other areas in the Federation of BiH, receive the protection they deserve.
