Successful completion of the project "Enhanced and Adaptive Management of Skakavac Nature Park through Forest Illegal Logging Risk Mapping and Acoustic Monitoring.“

Today, we proudly celebrated the successful completion of the project "Enhanced and Adaptive Management of Skakavac Nature Park through Forest Illegal Logging Risk Mapping and Acoustic Monitoring.“

The project is focused on the method of applying acoustic monitoring in the management of protected areas, which makes Skakavac the only natural monument in Europe that uses this innovative concept.

In order to celebrate the end of the project, stakeholders' representatives gathered at Skakavac today, including the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas Sarajevo, and test acoustic monitoring was installed and practical training on the use of the system was held for supervisors of protected areas.

The advanced sound recording system uses the latest technologies, including artificial intelligence, to detect sounds associated with illegal logging. Acoustic monitoring enables quick and accurate identification of unsustainable practices, and the data collected through acoustic monitoring will enable a better understanding and mapping of the risks of illegal activities and the identification of key areas where measures should be taken.

The project was co-financed by the Environmental Protection Fund of the FBiH. The FEA team expresses gratitude to everyone who participated in this project and contributed to its successful implementation.
